2C-I is a new synthetic drug which is being trafficked and sold all over the United States. Already, it has been linked to the death of two teens in the United States who overdosed and began convulsing as a result. 17-year-old Elijah Stai was at McDonald’s with his friends when he began to smash his head around the ground and act like a possessed person. Eventually, he dropped to the floor and stopped breathing. Another teen was found face down on a sidewalk. When an autopsy was performed, they found traces of “smiles” in his bloodstream.

The dangerous new drug has been marketed on YouTube by drug users who videotape themselves describing their experiences while on the narcotic. They try and explain the “psychedelic world known as 2C-I” for viewers in hopes of piquing their curiosity. Users say that the drug can bring on effects that are a combination of MDMA and LSD but far more potent. Some people have claimed that they dealt with intense visual and aural hallucinations for days. Many users detail frightening experiences and bizarre encounters when they are on the strong synthetic substance.

Synthetic drugs like bath salts, Spice, and K-2 are relatively new to the U.S. and popular among teens and young adults. Unfortunately, they have lasting and terrifying effects. That is why they have been banned by the federal government. Much like other narcotics, people who are caught with a strong synthetic drug can be imprisoned, forced to undergo rehab, and much more. The American Association of Poison Control claims that about half of all 2C-I users are teenagers. There have been multiple overdoses recorded and at least two fatalities linked to the drug.
